Transport Information
We have calculated how long it will take from arriving at the car parking field to getting to the start. This includes walking from the car park to the bus stop, bus check in and loading, bus travel time, bus unloading, walk to assembly, collect race bib, 30 minutes in assembly and the walk to the start. We estimate that all this will take 2h15mins. To allow the first starts at 10, the buses will run from Ravenglass from 0730. We plan to have buses departing approximately every 8 minutes.
In order to ensure the smooth running of the transport system and to remove the uncertainty of arrangements we will allocate competitors a 'bus window'. Your bus window will be a 15 minute slot, starting two and a half hours before your start time; people starting at 10 will be allocated a bus window from 0730 to 0745 etc. The Bus Marshals will have a list of names and will check you off as you arrive at the bus stop. 90% of the seats in each bus will be allocated in this way, allowing 10% spare for 'emergencies'. Please take this extra time into consideration when selecting your start block on the entry form.
Equally, we need to do something similar on the return journey, albeit with much greater choice on the competitor's part. We will allocate a return bus window which begins two and a half hours after the latest start time of your party, where the 'party' is all the people who entered together on SiEntries. We anticipate that there will be more flexibility for the return journey, but those who arrive at their allocated bus departure time will have confidence of getting that bus. Others may queue for any bus on a 'standby' basis. There will be a marquee at assembly for changing and sheltering for those without club tents. The Prizegiving for the Long race will be held immediately after the Relay race on Sunday.
We are trying avoid long queues and potential chaos and have not put these arrangements in place without very careful consideration of all the implications. By providing the information above, we hope that you will understand the need for some early decisions on your part.
